I’ve spent most of my career around leaders who are doing the right things, and still feel like something is missing.
They’re smart. Experienced. Well-intentioned. Most of the organizations are performing well. Yet there’s a quiet tension underneath it all: Are we actually ready for what’s coming next? Ready for leadership transitions. Ready for change that doesn’t come with a playbook. Ready for decisions that have to be made before all the data is in.
That question is what led me and Ken Carnes to continue adapting C2 Advising into what it is and delivers today, and what ultimately led me to write The Ready Set. In my work with organizations, I kept seeing the same pattern: performance was being measured after the fact, while the real drivers of success, behavior, judgment, adaptability, and awareness, were showing up in the moments that mattered most. Under pressure. In ambiguity. When priorities collided. That’s where outcomes were decided, long before the metrics caught up.
My goal with this account and with the Ready Set Substack is a place for those moments. I’ll write about Predictive Performance, leadership readiness, talent, succession, and what actually helps people and organizations stay effective as the world speeds up. No hype. No recycled management slogans. Just practical insight from the field, and a few hard-earned lessons along the way, for leaders who want to be ready before the moment arrives. Join me.
